1. BAK BAKFlip MX4 Hard Folding Truck Bed Tonneau Cover | 448329

This is one most popular tonneau covers for f-150 series in the market.

The Bakflip 448329 MX4 folding tonneau cover is a premium matte folding tonneau cover except that it is hard yet soft enough to roll for convenience.

Why You Should Consider Buying It?

Its features are similar to other models of backflip tonneau covers such as its low profile design and full bed access to your truck without removing it.

Like any other bed cover, It maintains an upright position through the prop rods and is easy to remove without the help of any tools.

It locks but is easy to open by pulling the cord for each layer as it folds back.

Lastly, you don’t have to worry about the 2nd or 3rd section being caught by the wind. Though you would need a locking tailgate to truly secure your gear in the bed.

  • Material: Aluminum
  • Fitment Options: (2015-2020) & (2021-2022)
  • Lock Type: Tailgate
  • Truck Bed Access: 100% BED ACCESS
  • Warranty: 5 – Year
  • Exterior: Chrome, Painted, Polished
  • Installation Difficulty: Easy

Pros :

  • It is not heavy at all, you can even open and fold it with one hand, with ease!
  • BakFlip could easily be flipped up against the rear cab window for full access or easily removed by untightening two screws.
  • Very easy to install “just watch the how-to video on YouTube that’s like 4 minutes long”.

Cons :

  • Durability is not top notch as for the price but it will survive a couple of years.
  • Not 100% water sealed, but it’s like 99.9% waterproof. There will occasionally be a drop of water after a hard downpour but that’s it. So align the cover properly.

Actual User Review :

I originally bought this cover in Nov 2018 for my then-new F150. Quality was as expected from past experience with this company. Sharp edges at the ends of the rails, packaging full of aluminum shavings, cheap foam bumpers not up to par, just not finished very well considering the $900 price tag. But it was well packed, looks good, works great, and I love it.

Now for my most recent purchase:

I bought another one last month for my dad’s 2019 f150. Huge difference. All of the sharp edges are now covered, with new textured paint on the side rails, and plastic caps over the rail ends. Corners of the cover are finished with nice square trim pieces, the foam bumpers are upgraded to actual rubber that looks like it should last. The cheesy little plastic loops that hold the prop rods have been replaced with actual clips. Also, the packaging was completely free of all the chips and trash that I had to clean off of my cover last year. They have really done a nice job and it feels like a more expensive product. I was impressed and jealous at the same time.

The price was steep, even with a $100 rebate but I’d buy another one without hesitation. It’s good to see any company take feedback and invest in the product rather than sit back collecting cash until competitors do it right and take the business away from them.

Update 28 months later:

Foam pieces that separate panels during folding are torn and falling off. Scratches all over the panels. From what, washing with a microfiber mitt??? I got my weakling electric pressure washer too close while rinsing soap and it blasted a bunch of paint off. The matte black looks nice but it is not even as durable as the lower-priced G2. Knocking off a star for durability.

Warn Tips :

Piece of advice, don’t cheap out on Chinese low-quality ones, you’ll regret it and waste your money; even though I live in Canada but this BAKFlip tonneau cover is made in the USA!

Overall :

All in all, this is one of the best hard folding tonneau cover for f150 if you are not planning to drive in the heavy rain and gonna use it for normal everyday use.

Highly recommended, go for it.

2. DNA Motoring TTC-HARD-015 Truck Bed Top Hard Solid Tri-Fold Tonneau Cover

Ok, This is a chinese brand obviously because it cost a lot less than other competitors.

But as far as our concern on material quality, durability and features this tonneau cover is not missing that many traits.

So, If you are looking for the best budget hard folding tonneau cover for f150, this hard tri-fold tonneau cover is a no-brainer.

Get it if you are on a tight budget, you won’t regret it.

Why You Should Consider Buying It?

This hard tonneau cover is also very easy to install and doesn’t leak as long as you have the correct fit and the correct installation.

It is also easy to use, fold back to open the bed and fold closed to seal the bed.

The cover fits tightly on the tailgate which allows us to store things overnight without worrying if a thief will find a way into the bed of the truck-if he found a way he would be working all night at it only to discover that you cannot remove it without getting inside the bed of the truck via key first!

The attached rubber molding keeps out dust and water. They include an additional strip of rubber molding which is used to seal the sides and bottom of the tailgate when it is closed.

Note: Vehicles with a bedliner installed may require modifications to install this product.

  • Material: Aluminum & ABS Plastic / Rubber
  • Fitment Options: (1975-1996) (1997-2003) (2004-2014) & (2015-2020)
  • Lock Type: Tailgate
  • Truck Bed Access: ———-
  • Warranty: 3 – Years
  • Exterior: Bullfrog Bump Texture
  • Installation Difficulty: Easy

Pros :

  • Affordable price and very secure.
  • Easy to fold, and pretty easy to install (1000% better than the soft covers).
  • Better mpg. I wasn’t expecting this, but by highway mpg went up by +3! This was a nice side bonus, especially right now with the current admin jacking up the price of gas.

Cons :

  • Not 100% leak proof, a little comes in around the corners, mostly because the foam there is poorly glued on. Can be an easy DIY fix.
  • The pads that prevent it from denting itself, while open, fell off in the AZ heat. Again, easy DIY fix.

Actual User Review :

I really liked the quick delivery. The delivery MAN (from amazon) destroyed the first shipment which was more than likely because there was a grumpy lady who was yelling at him and demanding he lift this heavy box on his home-which I witnessed-which reminds me, I will make a complaint pertaining to her on his behalf (she was belittling).

The product is a great fit for the size requested, easy to install, and doesn’t leak as long as you have the correct fit and correct installation. There were extra parts in the box when we received our new, undamaged package which quickly reached us upon the UPS driver picking up the damaged package. I highly recommend this product.

It is also easy to use, fold back to open the bed and fold closed to seal the bed. We have had rain and snow, damaging weather, etc, and the cove still remains to look new-not to mention the truck gets washed in a car wash every day!

No leaks for the working man to haul all of his valuable items. The cover also fits tightly on the tailgate which allows us to store things overnight without worrying if a thief will find a way into the bed of the truck-if he found a way he would be working all night at it only to discover that you cannot remove it without getting inside the bed of the truck via key first!

YouTube Review: DNA Motoring amazon hard bed cover

Overall :

So, On our side, the product is overall good and can handle pretty rough use.

If you are planning to buy the best quality possible then you should buy other ones which we listed here, but if the price is what your concern then I highly recommend you to buy this DNA Motoring product rather than buying an expensive one.

Best hard folding bed cover f150 series in an affordable price range.

3.Gator EFX Hard Tri-Fold Truck Bed Tonneau Cover | GC24019

This company sells so many types of bed covers like soft, hard, folding, and retractable with so many size options.

This particular hard cover has its own advantage just like the other hardcover on this list.

The EFX tonneau cover can easily be installed in less than 30 minutes, without the use of tools or the need for drilling.

Each cover is a custom fit to your specific year, make, and model, ensuring a perfect fit for your truck.

Why You Should Consider Buying It?

This bed cover comes with extremely pleasing quality, ESPECIALLY for the price!

It fits very securely for when you keep valuable tools and other items in the bed. The channels direct water to the front or rear of the bed, and it comes with tubes to run through the plugs in the front of the bed. That’s nice so your items do not get wet.

I HATE when I see a truck with a hard cover that sits up 1″ from the sides of the bed. The look just seems unfinished to me. Instead, this cover sits pretty low on the sides of the bed, with a very streamlined look.

The installation is very easy!

Just bolt on the rails and lay the cover on top. You will love, that you can pull the cords to unlock each panel via the nylon plastic clips. There is a cord on each side, so you don’t have to run back and forth!

  • Material: Aluminum
  • Fitment Options: (2015-2020) & (2021-2022)
  • Lock Type: Tailgate
  • Truck Bed Access: 2/3 Bed Access
  • Warranty: 3 – Year
  • Exterior: ———-
  • Installation Difficulty: Easy

Important Tips:

Keep in mind this is a Tri-fold bed cover.

Like other bed covers on the list fold 3 times, so you can access the entire bed. The “Tri” fold actually only folds TWICE. When it is fully opened, 1/3 of the bed stays covered. This isn’t a huge issue for the most part, and you can quickly remove the whole cover if you need to access the entire bed.

However, I would recommend you to buy the quad-fold version of this, If you really need the full bed to be open.

Installation Note:

Leave the clamps holding everything down slightly loose to make final minor adjustments when you unfold the cover to line it up.

Then lay on your back, slide into the bed and tighten them while the cover is still unfolded. Once tightened you should be fine to move it about. This will help make a better seal to keep water out and ensure the latches hold true.

Pros :

  • Easy to install, like 15 minutes easy.
  • Installation requires no drilling
  • Holds up to 300 pounds of evenly distributed weight
  • Storage straps allow you to drive with the cover 2/3 open

Cons :

  • The rubber material that seals the outer edges appears under hot temperatures and the glue holding them down starts to peel away, which can be fixed using a stronger adhesive.

Actual User Review :

Leasing my ’20 Plat, so I didn’t want to spend a lot on a cover. I just need something to protect any cargo from the elements. I had a Lund Genesis Elite roll-up on my ’18 F-150 XLT, and it cost just a bit more than this one.

I really liked the canvas material of that cover, but it has its share of faults at its given price point. But I’ll tell you, this one was by far easier to install. Additionally, I love the fact that there are rubber seals all around the rails and cover.

The Lund used cheaper foam tape. Also, a simple, one-handed operation to open the cover is key. Most require a simultaneous two-handed op to open. The cover support rod ends are softly padded to minimize NVH. Finally, it’s low profile!

The Lund sat on top of the bed, whereas this sits practically level (maybe 0.25″ above), like the more expensive ones out there. I’ll be honest, I’m floored by the overall quality and ease of installation for this cover.

The cover seems to be made of some type of thick, marine-grade vinyl, made to imitate leather. I would recommend this over and over again if you just need a simple roll-up cover for your F-150. Do NOT hesitate. I’m floored that this is only $200! It’s a steal, and it’s made here in the USA. No, this is NOT a paid review. I’m just that happy about it.

The total install time for me was 45 min, YMMV.

Overall :

This brand has one of the best-selling tonneau covers on Amazon, which says a lot by itself.

As far as my recommendation, if you are looking for the middle ground bed cover for your f 150 this is a steal for that money.

Price also drops from time to time so you can even cheaper whenever they go on sale.

4. BAK BAKFlip G2 Hard Folding Truck Bed Tonneau Cover | 226329

The G2 from BAK Industries will be the company’s middle-of-the-road offering in regards to their hard tri-fold offerings and will be a fantastic choice for the 2015 and newer F-150 owners who are looking to add a ton of security to your bed cargo.

Now, the G2 here will be available in sizes to fit your 5 1/2 foot, 6 1/2 foot, and even 8-foot beds and will start right around 875 bucks for the 5 1/2 foot option we’re talking about.

Why You Should Consider Buying It?

Let’s dive a little bit deeper into the G2, guys, and, again, the middle-of-the-road tri-fold from BAK Industries existing just beneath the more premium MX4 also available on the site and just above the more budget-friendly G1.

Now, the big difference between the three options I just mentioned will come down to the materials of the actual panels here, guys.

For instance, that more expensive MX4 will use durable aluminum exclusively for the panels whereas the G2 here, on the other hand, is gonna use what they call a solid panel but with an aluminum skin, basically, a composite material in the middle wrapped in aluminum.

Now, that’s still gonna make for a very, very tough cover and it’s still gonna deliver a ton of security but the G2 here is gonna deliver a weight rating of 300 pounds versus the more expensive MX4 which will give you a 400-pound rating.

So, if that’s important to you, that’s the main difference. Now, that aluminum has been given the gloss black powder coat as you can see. It is also UV resistant and that’s gonna help prevent any fading on this thing over the years.

Now, as far as the actual design is concerned, well, as the name implies, BAKFlip is going to be a flipping or folding cover. Tri-fold to be exact, as we’ve already said, and in my opinion, that is the most popular design that you are going to encounter in the category at least here on our site.

Now, there will be rolling options such as a Revolver X2, also from BAK industries. And there will also be a retractable hardcover option as well but, ultimately, I feel like the folding covers here will be the best way to go or at least the most popular way to go when you’re browsing for hardcovers on the site.

Now, if you didn’t know, the folding options I think are great because it’s gonna give you the option of flipping one or two sections up at a time or, if you need to, you can flip the entire cover up and out of the way and gain full access to the entire bed.

Now, the only drawback with this versus a rolling cover per se is that you do lose some visibility out of the rear window with this puppy folded all the way up.

But, as someone who has this same cover installed on my own F-150, between the side mirrors in addition to the backup camera, it has really just been a non-issue.

But one thing I do really enjoy about the BAKFlip cover here in general besides its quality build, quality materials, and things like that, is just how to flash it sits with the bed rails once everything has been installed.

And, in my opinion, just makes for a much cleaner look.

Now, at the time of this video, guys, the BAKFlip in addition to the UnderCover Flex will be your only two options on this site that’s gonna deliver a very, very flush design.

Retractable covers as well will do that but if we’re talking tri-fold, guys, this and the UnderCover are gonna be your two big options here.

Options like Extang and WeatherTech do make a nice cover but they are gonna stick up a little bit above the bed rails.

Not a big deal to some truck owners out there but for owners who prefer maybe that more flush, clean appearance, whatever you wanna call it, this is certainly gonna be a great choice.

  • Material: Aluminum
  • Fitment Options: (2015 – 2020) (202 – 2021)
  • Lock Type: Tailgate
  • Truck Bed Access: 100% BED ACCESS
  • Warranty: 3 – Year
  • Exterior: Chrome, Painted, Polished
  • Installation Difficulty: Easy

Pros :

  • Come with the premium matte finish design
  • Waterproof, dual-action seal
  • Scratch-resistant
  • Easy to use and install
  • Visible third brake light
  • Durable, UV-resistant aluminum panels

Cons :

  • The lack of a good instruction manual and the shims required for installation are cons of this tarp, but if you’re nifty, you will find your way around it anyway.

Actual User Review :

This bed cover is built like a tank. Super strong and tough on the initial appearance and installation. The installation was super easy and no problem for one person to complete.

Two-person installation if you have weight lifting concerns.

Minimal tools require easy-to-follow instructions. My one negative is like many other companies that produce products that need bolts, screws, or some type of widgets to make the installation happen – routinely some of the screws or widgets are missing from the initial boxing, which was the case with the BAK flip I received.

Fortunately, the screws left out of my packet didn’t stop the main portion of the installation and when I called the company they were very helpful and understanding.

A ten-minute phone call and the screws I needed were shipped to my residence within days. So far an awesome product!

Important Tip :

It’s a good product, However, if you get your truck bed sprayed with Rhino liner, it adds a thickness to the position of the side rails. The latches are then too close to the rail to close easily, without having to push down hard. And then they are difficult to release.

You can remove the screws from the latches on both sides, bring them in about 1/4 to 3/8 inch, drill new holes and replace the screws.

After that latches will work smooth and easy, yet secure. The amount may vary with your particular installation.

What you need to do is change the design so all you have to do is loosen the screws, slide the latch in or out and then tighten.

5. UnderCover Ultra Flex Hard Folding Truck Bed Tonneau Cover | UX22020

The UnderCover Flex Tri-Fold Cover here is a personal favorite of mine, guys, for the’15 and newer F-150s, available on both five-and-a-half and six-and-a-half foot bed configurations.

Now, they are offering a killer build and fit along with a superior level of security for your bed cargo when everything is all locked up.

Why You Should Consider Buying It?

The materials are gonna be a very durable fiberglass reinforced plastic along with those aluminum rails, all of which are backed by a three-year warranty and a price point that’s gonna start around the mid $800 level for the five-and-a-half-foot option.

Installation is going to be a breeze here, guys, so figure a one out of three wrenches the old difficulty meter and about 20 minutes or so from start to finish. But if you want, hang out till the end and we’ll show you how it’s done.

Now if you’re looking for the ultimate in protection from both the elements and also wannabe thieves, a hardcover like this is ultimately gonna be the way to go.

Now unlike those soft vinyl covers out there, a hardcover like the UnderCover Flex can’t easily be defeated with a knife exposing all of your stuff which, let’s face it guys, is the unfortunate reality of some of those more affordable soft covers out there.

With a tri-fold again, like this in place in that rear tailgate all locked up, there’s really no easy way to penetrate the bed.

Now full disclosure, guys, I have a very, very similar cover to this one on my current truck had it over the last four or five years, it’s made its way from truck to truck and I still have absolutely no issues whatsoever, and nobody, knock on wood, has been able to break into my truck.

But what do you say we talk about the cover a little bit more and that extra security again, in this case, is gonna come from that durable FRP material, which does stand for fiberglass reinforced plastic which UnderCover states it’s gonna be a little bit more impact-resistant than similar aluminum covers out there, meaning basically you’re not gonna be as prone to denting or dinging like an aluminum option.

Now the FRP material here, guys, is given a bit of texture as you can see, finished off in I would say a gloss black powder coat.

It’s not gonna fade on you over the years and if for whatever reason you do encounter any issues with this cover at all, everything will be backed by a limited three-year warranty.

So if you haven’t been paying attention, yes, the UnderCover Flex here guys is a tri-fold design meaning it’s easy to fold up and out of the way if you ever need access to the entire bed at a moment’s notice.

Simply yank up on the cables here to release the latches and you can fold one or two panels up at a time, secure them with the included straps if you don’t want to fold the entire thing out of the way, or if you do, well, just simply prop it up using the included props and you are simply good to go.

Now the only drawback with something like this versus a rolling cover per se is that you do lose visibility out of the rear window when the entire thing is folded up against the cab.

But as someone who again has a similar cover on my ride, it’s been a non-issue especially if you have access to a rear or backup camera on your truck like most do anyway nowadays.

Now one of the big things I do really enjoy about this cover and it’s a big reason why I selected it for my own rig is how everything sits once it’s been installed.

Basically, it’s going to sit flush with those bed rails and just make for a much cleaner look overall.

  • Material: Aluminum
  • Fitment Options: (2004-2014) )(2015 – 2020) & (2021-2022)
  • Lock Type: Tailgate
  • Truck Bed Access: 100% BED ACCESS
  • Warranty: 5 – Year
  • Exterior: ‎———-
  • Installation Difficulty: Medium

Pros :

  • QUALITY: exceptionally well made. Sturdy, aluminum side rails, rigid folding panels, easy-to-use latch mechanism, outstanding weatherproof gaskets
  • WATERPROOF: even after going through high-pressure automated car washes, the cover remains water-tight… Not a single drop of water in the truck bed. (I keep tools in my truck bed and this is a biggie for me)

  • SECURITY: While no cover is 100% secure, this cover is darn near perfect. The only way to open the cover without ripping it apart is to open the tailgate first.

Cons :

  • Installation takes a good bit of tweaking to get things to line up.

Actual User Review :

Installed on 2017 F-150 Platinum with 5.5′ bed. My truck bed also came with a factory-installed spray-on bed liner.

Installation went fairly easy. I watched the video on their site first which explained everything a lot better than the written directions. Big tip for drainage, cut the hose in half, and poke it into the wall through the only hole that is showing. The middle clamp did seem out of place at first because it blocked the clip for the poles that hold up the cover when fully open. However, you can bend the clip out and then the pole easily comes in and out.

I really had no alignment issues that other users had. It lined up perfectly the first time. Just put the rails flush against the back of the bed. Because of the spray-on liner, I’m not sure if the padded weather strip you stick on the back wall will actually stay on, but I still put it on. For alignment, I let the panel’s weather stripping line up overlapping that stick-on padded weather stripping. This left plenty of overlap on the tailgate when closed. So perfect fit.

Love the look with it being flush. It is more expensive than some others but the quality is there. Bummed that it is sold for $80 less just a week after I bought it from a different seller.

Immediately saw an improvement in gas mileage, so a big plus there.

I won’t leave anything valuable in the back. It is secure enough to keep out people just walking by, but you could easily pop open any of these covers with a coat hanger since you just need to pull the cable to release it.

The included saddle bag is just ok. Would never buy it by itself, but as a freebie I installed it.

Overall :

Overall, you couldn’t be more pleased with the unit. If you are hesitant to get a folding cover and wanted the premium experience of the sliding/canister models.

This is the way to go.

However, the $1,000 – $2,000 price tag for many of you, might not be worth it, but trust me you will gonna thank me for this piece of quality.

The Undercover ArmorFlex has done everything you could ask for it.

I 100% recommend this to anyone who wants best hard folding bed cover f150 series, trust me you won’t be disappointed.

Side Note: Keep an eye out for when they go on sale for an even better value if you.
